Team Fiber Twist — Keep the Fleece

Fiber Twist celebrates the International year of Natural Fibers
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2009 the International Year of Natural Fibers to raise global awareness about natural fibers and to help ensure their long-term sustainability for farmers produce them.

To support this initiative, Fiber Twist is joining teams from around the world for “Keep the Fleece,” a global effort to collaboratively create the world’s largest scarf and at the same time raise money for the Heifer International Organization to build the world’s largest fiber flock.

Team Fiber Twist will take donations for each row that is knit, crochet, woven or felted and make the scarf based on those donations. We will assemble the pieces of our team’s scarf at the Fiber Twist Our scarf will then go on to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival to we joined with other scarf sections from around the world.

Here’s how you can join Team Fiber Twist to help create the world’s longest scarf.

  1. Join the team by contacting our team captain Holly Sonntag at info@fibertwist.com. Holly will answer any questions and fill you in on the details.
  2. Collect sponsors. The suggested donation is $1.00 per row or $10 per inch.
  3. Begin working on your scarf.
  4. Bring your finished scarf to the Fiber Twist along with your collected donations. Join us in assembling our team’s scarf at the Fiber Twist.

Visit the Keep the Fleece website for more information about this effort. Learn more about the International Year of Natural Fibers.
